Student Furniture Guidelines

Dorm/Apartment Bedroom Furniture Includes

(1) Bed and Mattress *
(1) Dresser **
(1) Desk
(1) Desk Chair
(1) Desk Hutch *** or (1) Standing Bookcase per 2 students

* Each mattress that is on a Cargo/Butler frame bed should have a plywood support piece with (3) slats under the plywood.

** Each room in a woman's dorm with a Cargo or Butler dresser should have a mirror attached (there will be many exceptions in Lora Robins due to other styles of dressers). All apartment bedrooms have mirrors on the dressers.

*** Each bedroom should have (1) standing bookcase per 2 students or (1) hutch on each desk. Hutches are no longer purchased by the University and are being phased out; there is no available inventory of hutches.

Beds

Bunk bed pins are available in University Services, Physical Plant Door B; these pins will only work for Cargo/Butler style beds.

University Services will bunk beds (where possible) upon request. Please call 287-6827 and provide your name, phone number and dorm with room number. If you are in the apartments please also provide whether this is for the front or back bedroom.

Please make sure that you leave enough room that the Setups Crew can get in the room to bunk the beds.

Both roommates must agree to have the beds bunked.

Ladders will be provided upon request.

The Setups Crew will un-bunk beds upon request.

We will get to these requests as quickly as possible.

We are not allowed to "FLIP" beds for students; as the high beds are seen as a potential liability by the University.

Single beds may be placed on (2) horizontal cinder blocks per corner for a total of (8) cinder blocks per bed; each student will need to find their own help to accomplish this guideline. Bunked beds CANNOT be placed on cinder blocks of any kind.

7' Beds

University Services cannot provide any 7' beds unless requested by the Housing Office. Please call 289-8471 to request a 7' bed and these requests will be fulfilled as long as the inventory can support the request. Please contact the Housing Office to remove a 7' bed and replace it with a 6' bed.

Students are encouraged to request 7' beds during Room Pick in the spring so that the bed can be delivered prior to arrival in the fall.

Please remember that you cannot bunk beds that are not the same size.

Mattress

There is only one style of mattress which is built to accommodate fire codes as well as stringent safety guidelines. It is highly suggested that you bring items to enhance the comfort of the mattress such as a foam mattress, liner, etc.

Apartment Furniture

Dining Room
(1) Table
(4) Chairs

Living Room (1) Cargo couch with (6) cushions
(1) Cargo chair with (2) cushions
(1) Coffee table

Please be aware that all furniture should be kept inside the apartment to avoid weather damage. Any furniture found outside will be removed and the residents will be charged for the cost of the item.

Room Furniture Inventory

Please understand that each room is inventoried prior to your arrival and the same furniture will need to be in your room when you depart campus. University Services does not have the space to store any furniture. If you choose not to use a piece of furniture in your room, you will need to find an alternative location for it and make sure it is returned to your room prior to leaving campus. You may contact your Head Resident for suggestions for storage in the dorm.

Residents will be charged for any furniture on the inventory that is not in the room prior to leaving campus.

Please be aware that the demand for furniture for on campus housing as well as transitional housing limits the inventory to be able to provide additional pieces and/or exchange of furniture items.

Should you experience any problems with the furniture in your dorm room or apartment, please call 287-6827 and report the problem immediately and we will be there as quickly as possible to help you.
